Free Dawit, Eritrea!

Free the Swedish-Eritrean journalist Dawit Isaak! It’s been 7 years now and there is still no hope in sight. The Muslim dictatorship of Eritrea doesn’t seem to be able to reason with. Dawit didn’t do anything wrong, except doing his job. He has not had any trial nor has he been convicted for anything. He was arrested for simply being a journalist.

It’s time to let go – or to be forced to.

    Hey Carl-

I first want to thank you for your involvment on our site. Your ideas and points are great, and I really enjoy the conversation you’ve helped stir.

This is messed up! Arrested just for journalism. Dictators are like monarchs’ red headed step childs. (Nothin against red heads). The biggest issue here is freeing an innocent man. How does Sweden feel about this? Is it an issue that stays in the media there? Is the Swedish governement doing anything to aid this victim?

This is a rockin site! Keep up the honest, educated work. We need more of it in the states.

Oh, and I know your english is probably way better than mine, but I do know a bit of Swedish. One of my best friends in Hawaii was from Sweden, but all I learned from him were really bad words. So I won’t say any of them.

    Thanks again-

haha, it would be great to hear them. 🙂 When I learn a new language I always go for the bad words first. Seems to be an interesting trend in language acquisition these days *lol*.

Well, obviously they do not approve – but then again there’s not much we can do about it. We – as well as your country – do not negotiate with terrorists or dictatorships that want money or recognition to fulfill their wicked agenda. I think that is good but of course it is a disaster for the individual concerned. But then again, if we would give them money or what ever they want in return, I think kidnappings and other terrorist acts would increase immensely, and I don’t want that to happen. What we should do is to put more pressure on international organizations (such as the UN) and other democratic countries as we have as allies (e.g. the US).
What we do now is that we work on sc. ngo-level (non governmental) which means that the Swedish state as such do not negotiate but supports Swedish aid organizations who do. It’s all a mess and sadly this is a widespread problem. Freedom isn’t for free and freedom of speech is something that we must defend every waken hour. For instance, the EU tries to legislate an act that would infringe the European bloggers their freedom of speech plus increase EU surveillance over EU blogs. I don’t like that development.

Thank you soo much for your kind words.

    Best regards.
