Going Green Goes Global

(The following post was originally posted on http://www.carlteglund.blogspot.com November 02 2006)

Winter is here in Sweden folks and as usual when all the white fluffy things come rumbling down the sky, people look up and say “what the bloody hell is this? We weren’t prepared for this!!” and all infrastructure in the whole of Sweden comes to a stop. I heard there was a terrible traffic jam in Stockholm yesterday; the line drove forward with a speed of approximately 500 meters/5 hours!! I cannot believe why these things happen forever and ever once a year. Why does the state never learn? I mean Stockholm county could easily grit their roads in advance around the end of October each year, I mean we KNOW that the first snowday will appear around this date!
What is more pathetic however is that I couldn’t even count to 10 before all Swedish newspapers had their own personal version of a Judgement Day scenario. Why is politics so deadlocked these days that people on the right alignment always have to oppose that there’s a climate change going on and people on the left alignment always have to be caught up in sermons about that the final days have come and we will all die a sudden painful death and it is all due to America and the evil consumption society of which we all live in today. I wouldn’t try to sneak out with that my political alignment is to the right, why would I wanna do that? But still I want to have SOME dignity spared within this discussion. I am right, but I still care about our common envirement and I want measures to be taken to avoid a future chaotic scenario. Although, I don’t think we should abandon our way of life and I do not think that more state control must be the answer nor the solution, but we certainly need to settle international agreements for this worrying situation that we’re actually heading towards! I think that instead of hunting after America and the consumption society, we should embrace it and look to all the blessings we got from them. I think we should invest even more % of our common GDP on scientific research plus even more technological measures and innovations. Both public interest funded researching groups and private corporations are mostly welcomed to join together in this struggle because we need all financiers we could possibly come up with in this struggle against global warming and climate changes.

We shouldn’t be extremists and rush to conclusions to easily, but neither must we avoid looking at scientificly researched material that says that something actually isn’t right!
We have to stay alert, although not naive!
